Equality

Back in 2016 I wrote about Equality and focused on a #pledgeforparity. Back then I focused on: Building supportive environments and work to eliminate conscious and unconscious bias; Building a stronger pipeline of female talent; Greater flexibility of roles and working patterns.

Now at Salesforce, I am delighted that Equality is a core value and is much broader than these three areas. I believe that businesses can be powerful platforms for social change and that it is our responsibility to further Equality for all.

In his inspiring book, Rebel Ideas, Matthew Syed goes further and argues that individual intelligence is no longer enough; that the only way to tackle todays complex problems is to harness the power of ‘cognitive diversity’.

Creating a culture of Equality isn’t just the right thing to do; it’s also the smart thing — empowering us to innovate, build deeper connections with our customers, and ultimately become a better company. Salesforce strives to create a workplace that reflects the diverse communities we serve and where everyone feels empowered to bring their full, authentic selves to work. As Amy Weaver said:

“Corporations are realizing the power of their platform and the responsibility that comes with that. It’s a responsibility to do well by their communities; it’s a responsibility to advocate for equality.” -Amy Weaver
